My front cover uses a lot of forms and conventions of a typical music magazine front cover such as Vibe magazine. A vibe magazine has a title that is relevant to the kind of language that links to the urban music scene as does mine. Also my image is the centre of the cover and all the cover lines go around the image using the same general colour scheme that compliments the photograph. The artists head is also covering the logo, giving the impression that the artist is the most important thing in the magazine. My magazine also has the bar code in the bottom corner with the website above it and the Issue date below.
My magazine also has a “teasing contents” on it mentioning with the styles of a few artists featuring and the cover line uses the number"30" in larger font. Also my entire font is in capital letters.
It develops the conventions of a magazine, instead of having a strap line above the logo it has it at the bottom of the page, showing more of the subjects face. Also instead of having a corner grabber I decided to change it to more of a star shape to make it different, also adding space to include more text into the cover. It challenges the forms and conventions as instead of having a close up white drop background of the artists face I decided to add a location but because I wanted the article to have a theme of the artist coming from the streets and has made it onto the magazine with his talent. I wanted the picture to be raw and about where he comes from.
My contents has the typical conventions of a contents page in Q or blues and soul magazine. This is shown with having the "contents" title at the top with the mention of the magazine title, the issue date and number next to it.
My contents also has bold headings with a "features" special but instead of having news or a regulars list I decided to put a fashion section in the magazine contents because the magazine is very image based and in Urban music the image can sell a music artist a lot. This is why it is different to Q magazine’s headings.
My magazine also has a main image a smaller image and caption within the image but my contents page also has an editor’s letter whereas Q magazine doesn’t, but it is a convention of other music magazines.
The title of the features and the description follow the same format where the title is in bold and the description is in smaller writing beneath but my page numbers are the same colour font as the description.
It follows the forms and conventions of a typical features page as firstly there is good use of colour schemes and the colours don’t over ride the actual feature. The images are important and there aren’t too many as it shows that the actual text is more important than the images. My magazine feature shows Pull quotes and this feature does, they are a convention in other magazine features also but my pull quotes are a different colour to the features text making it stand out. My artists name and the feature title is on the main image of my feature but this one only has the name of the band and is small & doesn’t really stand out. Mine however is large and in your face, so that you remember the name of the "new artist".
My feature also has the page numbers in the bottom corners of the pages but I don't have the logo as my name of my magazine is too large.
My feature also mentions the artists release date right at the end of the feature also which is a convention of a written article.
Overall I think my media product is very representative of a typical music magazine.
